Benefits Of Reflexology

Holistic Health Treatment
To Relieve Tension & Pain

It's hard to pick up a magazine or drive into town without seeing something relating to so-called "alternative medicine" and energy-based therapies that integrate the mind/body. Reflexology is one form of alternative therapy that is becoming more well known, and popular for pain relief.

Today, many doctors agree that over 75% of our health problems can be linked to nervous stress and tension, including cancers. Reflexology improves nerve and blood supply, and helps nature to normalize body functions. Reflexology relaxes the stress, providing a safe and effective way to better health.

Reflexology is a unique modality in the health field. Please note that its purpose is not to treat, diagnose, or replace conventional medical treatment for any specific medical disorder, but to promote better health and well being. As with any "alternative" therapy, you should seek medical help if you have an urgent or acute problem.

What Is Reflexology And How Does It Work?

This natural method uses your feet, primarily, and sometimes the hands, to treat your whole body. The treatment is gentle. Generally it is painless. As with any body work, occasional discomfort can occur as as the body releases the toxins or trauma it is holding.

The trained reflexologist applies pressure to the feet and hand with specific thumb, finger and hand techniques. No oils or lotions are used. This is not massage. Reflexology is based on a system of zones and reflex areas that energetically connect the body to the feet and hands.

The premise that reflexology effects a physical change to the body is based on the nervous system.

Pressure sensors in the feet and hands are a part of the body's "fight or flight" reflexive response. Feet (ready to flee) and hands (ready to fight) communicate with our thoughts and emotions, and are connected to the body's internal organs. Sudden adrenal surge from danger or stress triggers chemical reactions and tension.

Reflexology taps into this reflex network. It is believed that correct techniques break down the buildup in the feet, relieving tension, and opening the flow of blocked energy to the internal organs.

Benefits Of Reflexology

Reflexology can be used to achieve good health and balance or to alleviate symptoms from stress, migraines, infertility, back pain, arthritis and injury.

It is a holistic healing method to soothe and ease pain without the side effects of medications. Reflexology can speed the healing process and may be used alongside traditional medicine and medications.

The benefits of reflexology extend past simply relieving pain. This alternative method of healing can also be used to achieve and maintain balance and health.

Choosing A Reflexologist

Take care when selecting your practitioner. Since reflexology is becoming more and more popular, you should have plenty to pick from in your area. Make sure the reflexologist you choose has qualifications and is someone that you feel comfortable with. If your practitioner does not have a demeanor that is soothing to you, your sessions could be adversely affected.

Your first session will be mostly a learning session for the reflexologist. This is a time for him or her to get to know you so that he or she can map out the best course of treatment. Learning about the client is critical to choosing the best treatment. You will also receive your first reflexology session using your feet.

Plan an hour for each treatment. Once the practitioner zeroes in on where your pain is, they will be able to use your feet to treat your inner organs.

After the session, pay particular attention to how you react. This information is important feedback for your practitioner. Be sure to write down your reactions, and bring the paper to your next session. It's hard to remember the details a week or two later.

Everyone responds differently to treatment, but most people report a feeling of total relaxation and well being. Don't expect miracles on your first visit -- remember, the healing process is different for everyone. It can take time.

Reflexology is a great alternative healing method for relieving pain ... or just maintaining your general well being. It is totally natural, non-invasive and has no adverse side effects.

Why suffer needlessly from back pain, migraines or any other ailment when you could give reflexology a try?

But for now ...
